Silent Scope has always been one of my favorite arcade games. The imagination of a shooter game while having a sniper gun attached with a screen within the scope was amazing. There was a version of this game released on the original Xbox with a gun controller, but it was a bust. The controller couldn’t bring the same feeling as the arcade. With the Wii U controller having a screen in it, I feel like this is the opportune time to bring it back.
Silent Scope was mostly an arcade game and in the era of no arcades in the US, it has been reduced to appearing only at Dave & Busters and Gameworks. The game was played by having a screen in front of you showing the area and using the scope of the attached gun to get an enhanced view of where you were aiming. It was great for giving you the experience of using a real gun visually.
The Xbox version of the game failed to deliver the same experience. The gun attachment, which you had to buy separately, used the scope like a light gun and put the “sight” on your TV screen. While it was a good attempt, it was still crappy. I remember selling this game during my Circuit City years and ensured customers that the experience would not be the same.
While the Wii U won’t be able to give you the same exact experience as the arcade game, it can come close. My horrible photoshop attempt above is already a cool proof of concept. Using the Wii U controller can give you that unique sniper view while still providing you with a full TV screen to use as a point of reference. I want to see this happen really bad! You hear that Konami? Make it happen! What are your thoughts on this?
