An Open Letter to Bioware

Dear Bioware,

It took me a long time to really dive into the Mass Effect games.  To be honest, I played through one and two shortly before three came out and I loved every second of it.  I may have been one of the few people to accept the ending(s) of Mass Effect 3 despite a few lingering questions.  However, you have answered the mass amount of fans who were not happy with the ending(s) you provided and have graced us with updated content to give us fans closure.  This is what I have to say. Want to Win a Copy of The Art of Mass Effect?

A little over a month ago we did a podcast about nothing but Mass Effect.  With that podcast I opened up a contest for a copy of The Art of the Mass Effect Universe.  Since we were/are still a newer site and podcast we didn’t get one entry!  Now I open up the floodgates for a new contest and the same prize. If you would like to win a copy of this wonderful book you only have to do one thing…leave a comment in this post by Midnight Friday May 18th 2012 telling us what you loved about the Mass Effect games.  We will assign all comments a number and use a random number generator to pick a winner.  It couldn’t be more simple!  What are you waiting for? GO! NOW!

New Mass Effect Artwork Coming to BioWare Store

Everyone who reads this site and listens to the podcast should know by now that we are huge fans of Mass Effect.  BioWare teased upcoming limited edition lithographs a week or so ago and they just tweeted the release date and time.  The two lithographs will be a Prothean and Anderson.  I personally want the Prothean because it just looks bad ass.  They’ll be released on Friday and I’d better get one!

Bioware Announces Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut

Were you one of the people who immediately flocked to the internet to complain when you finished Mass Effect 3? Good news! Today, Bioware announced Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut for all platforms. The DLC content will expand upon/clarify the ending of ME3 through new cinematics and epilogues.

Chris and I discussed the ending of Mass Effect 3 in our podcast and we weren’t as pissed as some of the internet. I’m not sure how I feel about a game company bending to the will of the internet, but we’ll see if this begins a new standard for games going forward. ME3: Extended Cut will be released sometime this summer and will be free until April 12 2014. Read the full press release after the break.

Win a Copy of Art of the Mass Effect Universe

With the conclusion of Mass Effect and our Special Edition Podcast we decided to hold a little contest.  We’re giving away a copy of The Art of the Mass Effect Universe to a random person.  To win all you need to do is send an email to mailbag(at)unyieldinggeekery.com with who Chris and Jesse chose as their romantic interest in Mass Effect 3.  You can find that information by listening to the Mass Effect Podcast we just posted.  Also, if you want, leave us your thoughts on the Mass Effect games/story as a whole in the comments or in your contest entry.  All entries must be received by 11:59 PM Eastern on Saturday 3/31/2012.  We’ll randomly pick a winner out of all entries and announce the winner on Sunday 4/1.  Good luck!

Special Edition: Mass Effect Podcast

Mass Effect was a great video game series…It was essentially a giant “Choose Your Own Adventure” story with a huge focus on getting the player wrapped up in the story.  There were tons of relationships to form, decisions to be made, and sacrifices to make and they all led to this…The End.

With all of that said take a listen to our Special Edition Podcast about Mass Effect 3 and some intertwining discussion about the whole series in general.

Mass Effect 3: The Fail of Readiness

Mass Effect 3 is about the different species of the galaxy waging war on the reapers.  As you play through the game you form alliances and war assets which all total up to your Total Military Strength in the game.  So far, I’ve tackled every mission possible minus 1 and I believe my total strength is a little over seven thousand.  That’s a high number for playing through, but there is a kicker to your strength which ultimately effects which ending of the game you get.  That monster is the readiness rating.  Rant begins after the break… Continue reading
