Today EA announced that the Bioware created MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, will be going free to play this fall. Players will be able to enjoy the game up to level 50 with a few restrictions. The restrictions prevent players from accessing new content and some advanced player features, not sure what those are yet, but some of the restrictions can be unlocked by using Cartel Coins. No specific date was given, but it is coming. I haven’t played an MMO for quite some time, but I may just have to try this out.
Marvel has been releasing character renders for its upcoming MMO Marvel Heroes for some time now. Recently the company has stated that the core Avengers team will included alternate costumes based off of their film appearances.
Marvel Heroes is an action RPG featuring heroes from all over the Marvel universe for you to play as. In the game the main villain has been stated to be Doctor Doom up to his usual shenanigans with the cosmic cube. Though Doom is the primary antagonist it has been indicated that villains and story lines from not only the comics but animated series and films will be mined for content. The game will follow a free-to-play model with I assume micro-transactions but whether this will be a downloadable client or browser-based game is unknown at this time.

Today marks a special occasion. We get a quick glimpse at the highly secretive world of Marvel Heroes. Gazillion Games has been working on this for some time and surprisingly not a whole lot of info has made its way to the interwebs. Today, they released a first look video including gameplay and some CGI. It introduces us to the first main enemy…good ol Doctor Doom. What’s that? You have the cosmic cube? OMG everyone run! It’s not a big in-depth look, but it’s enough to peak my interest. Marvel Heroes is going to be a free to play MMO which will supposedly change MMO life. Enjoy the above trailer and keep an eye out for more as it is released.
Come the June issue of Game Informer magazine we will get our first glimpses and information on the long rumored and highly anticipated The Elder Scrolls MMO from Zenimax Online Studios.
I’ll let that previous sentence sink in a bit… OMG! OMG! OMG!
While not much is known at this time the game will take place across the continent of Tamriel and will be set 1000 years prior to the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. So let’s all make peace with our loved ones, stack some “I lost my job money”, and prepare for what maybe the greatest time sink in human history as we wait it out till 2013.

Blizzard has something special planned on the night of May 14th in celebration of the highly anticipated midnight release for Diablo 3. Retail partners in the US, UK, France, Germany, Sweden, Poland, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, and the region of Taiwan will be welcoming gamer’s for the launch of Diablo 3.
A few things to expect, hourly drawings and giveaways, multiple contests with Diablo 3 related prizes, such as a laser-etched desktop PC from Intel, t-shirts, posters. Naturally, there will be cosplayers that have been added to the activities list. Also the development team is going to be attending, signing copies of the game (regular or collectors edition), available for purchase at the launch event.
In the US, the official launch event will be hosted by Blizzard and retail partner GameStop at:
The Great Wheel Court of the Irvine Spectrum Mall
71 Fortune Drive
Irvine, CA 92618
Undoubtedly, I’m slowly getting the feeling there is going to be a huge line for the California location. Even if I’m dead tired from my flight I am going to be attending, crossing my fingers there won’t be a line down the block. Hope to see some of you there, if you can spot me out don’t be afraid to say hi! I’m that one short girl wearing glasses (Shocking, I know), swimming within the sea of nerdom.
Get ready for this weekends beta event. Starting Friday, April 27th, at noon PDT (GMT -7) and will be ending Sunday, April 29th, PDT (GMT -7). The only guarantee to be apart of this and futures betas is to pre-purchase your edition of Guild Wars 2. Within a week you’ll receive an email with further instructions on downloading the client you need in order to participate. There will not be a non-disclosure agreement, surprisingly it is open to the public. Which means I’ll be updating with plenty of screen shots and videos next week!
Bioware and EA launched a new open beta today for Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes. This is different from regular Warhammer Online. Wrath of Heroes is PvP based where three teams of six compete in arena matches. I haven’t played Warhammer Online so I’m not sure how much this differs from PvP in the MMO Game, but a 6v6v6 fight sounds hectic and fun. The best part about all of this is that it’s FREE. You can sign up for the open beta at www.wrathofheroes.com. The full press release is available after the break.
